About EmeraldScout
EmeraldScout is an independent editorial project that reviews online casinos available to players in Ireland. We open each site and publish what an Irish player is actually shown — the offer, the payment logos, the games — and nothing we have not seen ourselves. This page explains who is behind that, how the site pays for itself, and what we will not do for money.
Why this site exists
There is no shortage of "best online casino Ireland" lists. Most of them are the same eight or ten operators in a slightly different order, described using text lifted from the operators' own marketing. Nobody in that process has deposited anything.
We started EmeraldScout because the questions that matter to a player — what am I actually being offered here, and can I even fund the account from Ireland? — are usually answered with a figure copied from an operator's global homepage, which is not the figure an Irish player sees. Answering them properly means opening each site and writing down what appears on the screen. It is slower than copying a press release, and it is the reason the numbers here differ from the numbers elsewhere.
The editorial team
The site is written and maintained by a small editorial team with more than a decade of combined experience covering online gambling and payments. We publish under a team byline rather than individual names — the checking is a shared process, reviews are cross-checked before publication, and no single review is the opinion of one person.
What that means in practice is that the accountability sits with the organisation. If something on this site is wrong, it is our error and we will correct it and note the change, rather than attribute it to a contributor.
Every figure on this site was read off the casino's own Irish-facing screen. Every review is written and checked by hand — we do not publish generated copy.
How the site makes money
Affiliate commission. When a reader opens an account through one of our links, the operator pays us a commission at no cost to the reader. That revenue funds the research behind the site.
We would rather state that plainly at the top of this section than bury it in a footer. An affiliate site that presents itself as a neutral consumer authority is being dishonest about its own incentives, and you should treat the ones that do with suspicion.
What the commission does not do is determine what we write or the running order. Commission rates vary considerably between operators, and if we ranked on them the list would look quite different from the one we publish. Our specific commitments:
- Commercial terms are never an input to a ranking position.
- We do not sell placement or favourable wording.
- An operator that fails a disqualifying check is removed regardless of what it pays.
- Every page carrying affiliate links discloses it, in the footer, on every page.
- Where we have not checked something, we say so instead of repeating the operator's claim.

What we cover, and what we don't
We cover online casinos that accept Irish players. These are international operators and none of them holds an Irish licence. Ireland's own regime under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 is still being rolled out by the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland. We have not confirmed which jurisdiction licenses each of the casinos we list, so we do not name one for them.
We are explicit about that everywhere on the site, because it is the single most important thing to understand before depositing: if a payout is withheld, there is no Irish regulator to escalate to. That is also why we tell you to find and check the operator's licence yourself before you deposit, and why we would rather leave a gap on the page than fill it with an operator detail we have not verified. We do not cover Irish-licensed betting operators, sports betting, or the National Lottery. We also do not publish user-submitted ratings — unverified rating widgets on affiliate sites are trivially gameable, and we would rather publish a small number of things we have actually seen.
Corrections and contact
What we can see from the outside is a real limitation: an offer screen tells you what is promised, not what happens after you deposit. Your own experience fills that gap. Where the two disagree we want to hear about it — a consistent pattern of reader reports is one of the things that sends us back to re-check a casino out of cycle.

If we get something wrong, we correct it and note that it changed. We would rather have a visible correction history than a site that has apparently never been mistaken.
Our position on gambling
We review gambling products and we profit when people use them, so we are not going to pretend to neutrality we do not have. What we can do is be accurate about what these products are.
Casino games are built with a permanent house edge. They are entertainment you pay for, not a way to make money, and no strategy changes that arithmetic. We do not use urgency language, countdown timers, or manufactured scarcity anywhere on this site, and we do not frame gambling as an investment or a solution to money problems.
